Security Tool Virus – What Is It?

Security Tool is a fake anti-spyware program that infects computers while appearing to perform a system scan like an antivirus program does. Security Tool displays warning alerts telling you that your computer is infected with computer viruses and other malware, spyware, and trojans.

How Did I Get Infected With Security Tool Virus?

Security Tool is promoted via pop-ups on websites and other trojan programs.  Typically, you may see a pop up while visiting a web site and the pop up tells you that it has scanned your computer and found virus and other malware or spyware.  A new message prompts to download Security Tool software in order to clean the PC.

What Does Security Tool Do To My Computer?

After Security Tool is installed, it will start automatically every time you reboot your computer.  You’ll see the Security Tool window as it begins scanning your computer and shows you a list of fake infections. If you follow the prompt to ‘clean the infected files’, you are prompted to buy Security Tool.

Warning! DO NOT delete any files found by Security Tool. The files this program finds and tags ‘infected’ are actually good files that you need to run your computer. If you delete them, you face a damaged computer.

How to Get Rid of Security Tool Virus

Security Tool Removal Guide - Automated Removal Instructions using SuperAntiSpyware:

1. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode With Networking.
   1. To do this, restart your computer.
   2. As soon as you see your screen come on, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard until you see a screen with the menu similar to this:
      
   3. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter on your keyboard.
   4. Windows will now boot into safe mode with networking.
2. Log into your Windows user account.
3. Click OK to any Windows prompts about being in safe mode.
4. Once fully logged in, open a browser and go here: www.superantispyware.com and download SuperAntiSpyware and install the program.
   NOTE: If Security Tool is running, it may not allow you to download files on the infected computer. If so, you will need to download SuperAntiSpyware Portable edition to another computer and then transfer it to a USB Flash Drive, CD/DVD, or some other External Drive.
5. After SuperAntiSpyware is fully installed and updated… Click ‘Scan your Computer’ and do a Quick Scan on your C: Drive. (you’ll be doing a full scan later)
   
6. SuperAntiSpyware will scan your computer and find all files related to Security Tool, System Tool, and other Spyware.
7. After Scan is complete, press OK and follow the prompts to remove the Spyware and reboot your computer into regular Windows mode.
8. Now that you are booted back into regular mode, your computer is free from Security Tool but you are not done yet.
9. Run another Scan with SuperAntiSpyware except this time choose Full Scan.  SuperAntiSpyware needs to run under the user account that is infected. In addition, it is most effective when it can run under Windows normal mode.  You weren’t able to run SuperAntiSpyware under normal mode in the beginning because Security Tool would have ‘locked’ it as a ‘infected’ file falsely.
